3D Movie = Headache

I haven't seen a movie in 3D for a very long time. I go to the non-3D version of movies, because quite frankly, I feel most movies don't need to be in 3D and aren't really a good vehicle for 3D. The only movie that I can think of that has come out recently that made sense to be in 3D was the space movie "Gravity". That would have been interesting to watch in 3D as it would have helped to emphasize the feeling of floating around in space for the viewer. However, I didn't see it. What I did end up seeing in 3D was The Lego Movie.

This was a fun movie. I love the Lego video games, they are so much fun and have a great sense of humour. I hoped the movie would be just as good and I was not disappointed. The only down side was that by the time the film was over, I was starting to get a headache, which overnight has bloomed into a doosey. It's all at the front of my forehead, my temples and around my eyes. So, it will be a long time before I watch another movie in 3D, unless there is a good reason for it to be in that format.

Cindy's Creations Thunder Bay

I have to rave about these candles!!! I bought myself some candles and soap from Cindy at a Christmas Craft Sale and these are the best aroma candles I have ever used! I'm being completely honest. I have never used candles that smelled so wonderful for so long. Quite often I have found that when I buy scented candles they smell great in the package, but when I light them, they just don't burn with any scent or there is a quick burst of scent at first and that's it. It is almost as if they sprayed the exterior of the candle with scent, and didn't put any within the candle itself. These candles keep the scent going for as long as the candle is lit and smell wonderful!

As for how long they burn, I lit them at about 5pm and had to blow them out around midnight leaving enough to burn again the next evening for a while.
I used all of these Clementine Orange candles up. They came in a package of 6 for $6.00 CND. It might seem a little pricey, but I was treating myself for Christmas and have been looking for real scented candles for ages. In my opinion, these candles are worth the price, absolutely and I'm cheap as you may have noticed. I have purchased many Candle Lite tealights in the past and I will stop wasting my money on their products as the candles Cindy makes are far superior.

I bought the Orange scented candles because I suffer from depression and orange/citrus scents are supposed to help combat it. I saved these used candles and placed them in my dresser drawers because they still have a strong scent and I get a whiff of it every time I open my drawers and the smell permeates my clothes too! It is especially nice on my pj's. :-)
This is the bar of Sweetgrass soap I bought from Cindy. It is so pretty. I have dry skin and I find this soap doesn't dry my skin out worse than it already is. I can't remember how much this cost. I was mainly interested in Cindy's candles, so I'm not sure what other products she makes other than soaps. She does not appear to have anything online about her business (that I could find), so I'm not able to provide a link for her products. If you live in the Thunder Bay area, I highly recommend giving her candles a try!!

New Directions Speaker's School -Thunder Bay

I am currently enrolled in the winter session of the New Directions Speaker's School here in Thunder Bay. We've only had a couple of classes, but I am enjoying it and recommend the course to anyone that is interested in learning how to speak in public.

You can find out more information about the course offered using the link above and even apply online for their next session.

Yesterday we had a heat wave here with the temperature rising to a whole +9C!!! Woot! Unfortunately, this little guy got confused I guess and thought full spring had arrived.
He is outside on the window pane. Spiders creep me out, but I actually felt sorry for this little guy being out there. I hope he went back into hiding again, as I don't think spring is here quite yet. It doesn't usually arrive until May.

Snow Watch

We have had a lot of snow here in Thunder Bay, in fact this is the most snow I've seen in the 6 years that I have been living at my current residence. (I move a lot.) I thought I would share some photos I took of the snow accumulating outside my ground level windows. It is now finally starting to melt as we seem to have come out of the deep freeze we'd been stuck in for the last three months.

This first set of photos will show you the progress out of my livingroom window.

This was taken after the first deep snow we got.
After the second deep snow fall, I got buried even more. lol
This morning the snow is starting to melt away and I can see a little more of the world outside.

I will now show a couple of pictures taken from my son's window after the first snow.
Sebastian our black cat decided he wanted to be in the photos. Perhaps he was trying to show how deep the snow is by comparing it to him? I think he just wanted his picture taken.

Coconut Topped Chocolate Muffins

These are slightly messy muffins to eat, but tasty.

2 cups all purpose flour
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup cocoa
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 egg
1 cup milk
1/3 cup cooking oil

In a medium sized bowl, stir together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, salt and cinnamon. Make a well in the centre.

In a small bowl beat eggs slightly. Stir in milk and oil. Pour this mixture into the well and stir into the dry ingredients to moisten. Fill greased muffin cups 3/4 full.

1/4 cup skim milk
1 teaspoon butter
1/4 teaspoon almond flavouring
1 cup coconut flakes

In a small bowl mix milk, butter and almond flavouring vigorously to blend. Stir in coconut and mix well.
Using a teaspoon try to place topping at the centre of each muffin the best you can and press the coconut mixture down into the batter to help secure it.

Bake at 400F for 20-25 minutes.

Two Similar Scarves - Easy Patterns for Beginners

I made my own pattern for these two scarves. These were gifts to a couple of young women who are friends with each other. They are both very similar, but a little different. I'm afraid I don't know what type of wool I used as I got it on sale when Zellers was going out of business. I really enjoyed working with the multi-coloured wool as it made it more fun to knit with.
One scarf has wider columns than the other, so you can choose whichever you like best. These patterns are great for beginners like myself, because you always start each row with knitting (nothing fancy to remember or count).

Wider Columned Scarf

6mm knitting needles

Cast on 35 stitches.

Each row: Knit 7, Purl 7, Knit 7, Purl 7, Knit 7

Continue this until you get your scarf to your desired length.

Narrower Columned Scarf

6mm knitting needles

Cast on 35 stitches.

Each row: Knit 5, Purl 5, Knit 5, Purl 5, Knit 5, Purl 5, Knit 5

Continue this until you get your scarf to your desired length.

If you try either of these patterns I would love it if you could send me a picture of your work! :-)

A Video to Entertain Your Cats

Looking for something to entertain your indoor cats during this long winter? I recommend giving this video a try:

My cats loved it.
They didn't watch it for the whole 30 minutes, but they did watch it for about 10 - 15 minutes. The bonus of playing this for your cats, is that you get to listen to the birds singing in the video, too, although there is quite a bit of traffic noise unfortunately.

A Very Long Red Scarf

My son's favourite colour is red, so I knit this long scarf for him, as he wanted one that he could wrap around his head a few times on those extra cold days. I used 4 balls of wool to complete this scarf. The pattern is very easy and good for a beginner like me.

Here is the link to the pattern:

I made my scarf much wider and longer than the pattern. I used 6mm needles and cast on 55 stitches. The colour of this wool is Cardinal, a nice bright red.

Full Moon Rising

Had to take this picture because the moon looked like a little mini sun rising up over the roof top. The sun doesn't rise in that direction this time of year.
